Analysis: Masthay era ends in Green Bay

Tim Masthay is a good example of a common NFL phenomenon: most players are just fine and will be dropped as soon as teams think they’ve found someone slightly better.

Such is the story of Tim Masthay, who apparently held off a challenge from rookie punter Peter Mortell in training camp only to find himself out of a job and out of the league as soon as Jacob Schum became available.

Masthay didn’t punt anywhere in 2016, and unless another NFL team decides that he is slightly better than the punter they currently employ, he figures to be out of a job for a while.
