Dorsey Levens Was King of the Ultra-Short-Yardage Touchdown

Packers running back Dorsey Levens runs the ball during a game against the Detroit Lions.

Here’s a dumb trivia question: since 1994, which Packers player has scored the most one-yard touchdowns?

Here’s a dumb trivia answer: Dorsey Levens.

I don’t know why, but this question recently crossed my mind, so I fired up the good ol’ Stathead play finder and got to work.

Reliable play-by-play information only goes back to 1994, so unfortunately we can’t look at the entire scope of Packers history, but even a look back to the early Mike Holmgren era brings some fun names to the conversation.

Yes, it’s Levens who leads the way with his 18 career one-yard touchdowns. He ran for 14 and caught four more during his eight seasons with the Packers, piling up more than 26% of his total scores in Green Bay from a single yard away.

Ahman Green is next on the list, totaling 14 career one-yard touchdowns. He ran in 13 and caught one. Eddie Lacy and John Kuhn round out the list of double-digit one-yard touchdown scorers with 11 apiece.

Obviously, each of those four benefits from scoring most of their touchdowns on the ground — it’s easier to run it in! So who’s at the top of the receiving touchdown list?

Well, that would be red zone legend Bubba Franks, who snagged eight one-yard touchdowns during his Packers tenure. He edges out Davante Adams and Jorday Nelson, who both scored six touchdowns from a single yard away. Adams, in particular, benefitted from low-yardage scores in Green Bay; during his record-setting 2020 season, Adams notched three of his 18 scores from the one-yard line.

There, that’s a bunch of stuff you know now about one-yard touchdowns.
